📖 Synopsis
The emotional adventure One Piece Film: Red focuses on Uta, who is a global singer and turns out to be the daughter of Shanks and Luffy’s childhood friend. Captivating the world with her voice, Uta tries to create a world of her dreams and peace, yet it comes with a cost.
The film opens with the Straw Hat Pirates arriving at Elegia, an island that is home to the very first concert that Uta will be performing live. Thousands of people flock to her concert to witness her song first-hand. During the concert, it is revealed that Uta possesses the Uta Uta no Mi, a Devil Fruit that enables her to trap people’s minds into a world of music dreams.
When Uta reached the breakdown point due to the overheating of her powers along with the effects of the Wake Shroom (a mushroom she takes to avoid sleeping and keeps the dream alive), she starts losing control. Upon understanding the harm she has inflicted, in the final moments she uses the remaining energy to free everyone from her dream and stops the return of Tot Musica, choosing to go with self-sacrifice.
The world begins to wake up is where the film ends. Uta is shown to be fainting and was taken into Shank’s ship, although it strongly looks like she is weakened. The movie implies, without showing explicitly, that she succumbs to exhaustion and the mushroom’s aftereffects. Luffy is unconcious and never sees her away, and the straw hats belt out sailing and Uta’s voice resonates around like one last goodbye.

🎶 Final Thoughts
One Piece Film: Red is a new emotionally charged, bold, and musical addition to the franchise. By examining Shanks’ legacy more closely, depicting a tragically flawed heroine, and further departing from the expected purely adventurous tone of One Piece, this entry emerges above the rest, focusing on grief and healing through the power of song.
Despite how short Uta’s reign might have been, the impact that her voice had in the One Piece world is sure to resonate within the fans’ hearts for many years to come.
