As expected in all of their adaptations, Studio Wit and CloverWorks added higher quality animation to what was already a visually pleasing TV series. The film utilizes its theatrical budget through lively background art, smooth character animations, and dramatic snow-covered vistas that provide Frigis with a snug yet threatening feel. The action scenes are fast, impeccably choreographed, and eye-catching, especially the snowy train fight where Yor’s fierce fighting skills are showcased alongside Loid’s improvised spy antics.
Even high-tension scenes are alleviated by Anya’s colorful comedic portraits. The animation effectively balances out the slapstick humor with action-filled sequences.
Tone & Themes
Spy x Family Code: White, like its predecessors, has family, trust, identity, and the sensitive juggling of secret lives at its pulse. The film blends humor with warmth, highlighting how an invented family founded on deception still strives to care for one another. Regardless of how global the stakes get, the film always puts focus back on Loid, Yor, and Anya’s emotional ties to each other.
Anya’s character remains charming. Her silliness combined with her powers is responsible for the most of the story’s conflict. The scenes where she pictures herself as a top secret agent and the one where she is afraid of being reprimanded for eating chocolate she is not allowed to touch are simultaneously adorable as well as funny.
The movie also takes a soft approach to exploring the issues of military extremism and the fragility of peace, without being preachy. The desire that Colonel Snidel has to bring back warfare for his own revenge stands in sharp contrast to the Forgers who, somewhat unknowingly but deliberately, try to keep the peace—both at home and in the wider world.
